I decided it was time to put some ambulances on the table and here is the result. I started with the AQ machine gun flivvers but decided I did not want them armed. Then thought that instead of just filling the hole where the gunner went it might be nice to give them skylights. I bought some rounded hole plugs for furniture building and thinned them before gluing them in the hole.

Very nice! I like it when you see support services on the table. Maybe give your troops a morale bonus?

In any other war I'd say never arm an ambulance, but in this one, I say you'll need to arm them to protect the wounded from the Harvestors.

The hardback rulebook gives ambulances a 20% chance of canceling a infantry or artillery casualty if the ambulance is within 6 inches. They also cost 15 points and I am wondering if they are worth it. They may end up being something to flesh out the army if one is a few points short. We'll see how they work on the table. As for arming them I agree with David. But for now my ambulances are unarmed. Maybe I'll build some armed ones in the future. I have started thinking about support units for both human and martian. The ambulances were first on the list. Next will be gatherer tripods for the martians. I have the kits now but of course I will not build them as designed but will give them my own spin. Next after that on the list are fuel tenders and munition carriers. For the past couple of years I have been trying to figure out how to do wrecker/recovery vehicles. I now have the parts that I think will work so they will be next after that. So lots of fun to come and I'll post pictures as these projects get finished. PS; I am somewhat embarrassed by the ambulance photos. The models look good to the eye, but the pictures show lots of spots that need touch up or clean up.

1) Even though Martians are not signatories to the Geneva Convention I see a practical effect to keeping them unarmed. Put a gun on something and the crew maybe is more likely to fight as opposed to performing casualty care or just getting the hell out of a bad situation.
2) For game play I would rather see a morale bonus for having an ambulance(s) on the game table.

I have been considering the idea of building some Mk II steamers with the ambulance ability. They might could sport a machine gun, or even a 4 inch cannon, with limited ammo, and increased cost. What do you all think?

Considering the desperate nature of the war and the massive casualties the humans have come to think as normal, I can't see them spending the resources for an armored ambulance. I mean in game terms it might make sense to get the special bonus with a more survivable vehicle, but in 'real' life I can't see it happening. And considering how slow the tanks would be, it could hardly 'rush' patients back to the hospital. Perhaps some sort of armored forward triage vehicle?

Maybe it first has to take a turn to 'set up' and has an area of effect for all infantry in range. Then it takes a turn to 'pack up' and is mobile again.

Well, to arm the ambulances that you have built with the dome, just drill a small hole and glue in a piece of plastic or wire. VOILA!! A turret.
And don't fret the photos too much. The harsh lighting of the flash can make even minor flaws look huge. Plus, when you use them in play and handle them more wear will show up.
Nice job on them.

Hmmm, I've done a bunch of stuff on both ammo carriers and the ambulance unit. For militia units, I use Old Glory's ACW sets - the wagons look great and the sets come with doctors, stretchers, etc. (15ACW-72 & 73). Don't over look the Western line as there's a doctor in buggy (15OW-113)in that one. For the regular army, I just use a standard covered Flivver with the Red Cross on it. I prefer the rule as it stands, at 15 points that chance to 'save' a casualty is big, especially on the artillery side. A couple of the big resin tents in the rear with proper Red Crosses and you're done. Do note that Scotts Paper Terrain has a very nice tents selections, including some big tents that would serve as well. I really wish Old Glory would get off their hands and do the remaining promised figures from their WW1 line. Over 30 items are still to be made - listed as N/A still! These include a Stretcher Bearers/Doctor/Nurses/Tent for each of the four major powers (Ger/Fre/Brit/USA). Now that MBA isn't doing 15mm resin anymore, OG should also do the 15mm resin buildings line they promised. To wit: 3x Timbered framed City Blocks (and ruins), 3x Stucco City Blocks (& ruins), Country Barn (and ruined), and finally Trench System!

Consider using them as a rally point. A routed unit will no longer route when within 3 inches. This represents that a the routed unit is bringing casualties back to the aid station and now relieved of the burden and can return to the fight.

The crosses are decals (water transfers) from Skytrex. They are stock number CD DEC-25. I don’t remember now who the distributor was.

Michigan Toy Soldier for the distributor. As noted before, I'm a pretty poor painter, so any 'prefabbed' decal is always top of my list.
