The AQMF system really fits well into a campaign setting and this is one that is really well done. I will hqave to steal a few ideas.
Remember Fort Wingate!

I look forward to another 1908-1910 style battle.
I would love to know the source of the cavalry.

terrance : Source of horse limbers and stats please? Respectfully, Gunny 15mm Blue Moon, American War of Independence line. Limber with civilian driver. Product ID 15AMR-44. I was looking for limbers in the Blue Moon ACW line but they have Artillerymen in kepis sitting on the caisson. Mad Morgan put me on to the AWI line as not having any riding figures. I made them: - Move 6 inches.
- Defense 5
- Armor 4
- Cost 10 points for 3 elements

Make it more interesting and have humans arrive a blips. Did you make the dry rivers beds? Use of human blips is a good idea. I will probably do that in the future. For the story line I assumed for this scenario it was the first time this army met Martians and they might be a little too cocky. I actually expected the humans to lose. Then the next time they would be developing better tactics and use of cover. But there is no accounting for the luck of the dice.
The dry river beds are from Wizard Kraft. A pretty pricy but they show up every year at the Enfilade convention in Olympia Washington where they always give a nice discount. That makes them only a bit pricy. Here is a link: http://wizardkraft.net.

1908; The Martians are coming, The Martians are coming!
Martian background: The prey that stings are proving as troublesome as expected. However, like any semi-sapient beings, destruction of their habitation is expected to cause great disruption. Such a habitation has been located and Martian units are instructed to proceed there and do as much damage to the structures as possible.
Human background: Scouts have located Martian tripods advancing towards Belleville. It must be assumed they intend to attack the military units gathering there. The expeditionary forces in Belleville will prepare for defense.
Set-up: Three city blocks with 10 buildings are placed on the human player’s table edge. The rest of the table is given hills and woods that blocks line of sight from the city to the Martian board edge.
The human player sets up within 16 inches of the human player board edge. Infantry may be placed inside buildings. Artillery may be set up in defensive positions. Up to two infantry units may be placed in ambush in woods on any part of the table. The human player may hold up to 6 infantry units off the board as reserves.
The Martian player sets up his tripods touching the Martian table edge.
Game length: The game will last until one army breaks or the Martians can claim victory and thus may withdraw.
Victory: Human; The human must break the Martian army by destroying 4 of the 5 attacking tripods. (One more than half the units.)
Martian; The Martian must either break the human army (half plus one unit destroyed) or destroy 6 of the 10 town buildings. (The school counts as 3 buildings.)
Special rules, Building destruction: Martians may target buildings with heat rays. When the cumulative damage equals or exceeds the building’s damage value, the building collapses and is destroyed.
Buildings Multi-story brick; Defense = 1; Armor = 6. Damage value for school = 8, for all other buildings = 5.

A note: Adding a black dust or green gas projector adds 50 points to the cost of a tripod.
A Question: Do the prey creatures have any fortifications? Trenches, wire, obstacles, tourist traps?
If you would like, I can try to make a map for you.

If you would like, I can try to make a map for you. Assault tripod with only a black dust or green gas projector is still 200 points. It is early in the war and the Martians have not yet figured out the value of putting a heat ray on tripods with projectors. The prey that stings have the field artillery dug in, infantry may be in the buildings so get that defensive bonus and can set up an ambush. The Martian advance was discovered only a short time ago and there has not been time to dig extensive field works. Appreciate the kind offer. What would you need to try and make a map? Photos of the set up? I have made rough sketches of the terrain in the past when traps or ambushes were included, but my artwork would barely pass an elementary school art class. This time I was planning on numbering the woods areas and have the Human player write down the number of the area containing the ambush.

1908 The Martians are coming! AAR Set up. The humans kept all the cavalry and one infantry unit off as reserves. Two infantry with Forlorn Hope were put in woods for ambushes. Most of the rest of the infantry and MGs were put in buildings. The Martian started with 3 tripods, 2 with heat rays and one with black dust. And chose to start close together on the left flank.

08 The Martians are coming! Turn 1 Martians won initiative and double moved forward. The Black dust tripod got caught in the first ambush and was destroyed. The Martians then killed 2 of three elements of the ambushers and they failed morale.

1908 The Martians are coming! Turn 2 Martians get initiative. The remaining two tripods come on the table and start to move forward. One of these runs into the second ambush. But survives and the ambushers are wiped out in the Martian combat phase. The humans catch a tripod with MGs from a building and inflict 8 armor damage. (D10 worth armor damage.)

The Martians are coming! Turn 3 Martians get initiative. The badly damaged tripod moves close to the buildings and damages 2 infantry units an does some damage to the building. The humans bring reserves on from the table edge and assault tripods with infantry and cavalry.

1908 The Martians are coming! Turn 4 Humans win initiative. The humans make several assaults and damage the tripod in most cases. The worst damage causes a movement damage to a tripod. Rifle fire brings down the heavily damaged tripod near the buildings. During the Martian turn the martian player tries to move the tripod with movement damage. The Martians win the rolloff and move the tripod back toward the Martian table edge.

1908 The Martians are coming! Turn 5 Humans win initiative. Two tripods remain. Killing one will break the Martian army. Artillery fires at one and misses. The cavalry assaults the second and brings it down with a roll D10 armor result.

The humans had some lucky rolls, doing a lot of damage with tripod collapses and D10 armor loss. However in the after discussion we thought the Martian could have done a couple things differently that could have helped. One was to not bring on the sole black dust tripod until the ambushes had been sprung. The black dust weapon was the best chance of taking out the artillery. In the event, the artillery did relatively little damage to the tripods, but it could have really hurt. Secondly the Martian player forgot the Martian victory condition of destroying buildings. If he had stayed out of MG range and enough away from the edges that the cavalry could not assault on the turn they entered he could have used focus shots on the building and done significant damage. Probably forcing the human to bring units out after him where they could be destroyed in the open. Still, a good game and the Martian player is still early on the learning curve.
