I am starting a conversion of the Black Hat Miniatures Cephalod Handling Machine to a Constructor engine for AQ. Here is a pic of the main pieces of the Black Hat model. I am going to add an "eye" to make them more compatible with the AQ tripods and add a set of claws or tentacles. I'll post more pics as I get the chance to move this project forward.

I found some beads that can work for the eye. I drilled a pilot hole by putting the drill bit through the hole in the bead. This made it easier to position the "eye".

Enlarge the pilot hole with a bit the diameter of the bead. Drill just deep enough that the bead goes in half way. Glue the bead in place and when the glue is dry, fill the hole in the bead with modeling putty.

I glued the tentacles from Black Hat in place and added claws or tentacles from the power node (which I obviously decided not to use on the power node).

Finally added the legs and they are ready for paint. I'll probably add bases, but need to buy material for that.

Can you put other tripods in the photo for size comparison?

Can you put other tripods in the photo for size comparison? Yes. I have primed them with Army Painter spray (platemail metal). I let them dry for a day, now just have to do the final details. Then I'll post pics with other tripods and human soldiers and tanks for comparison.

Nice looking work.
They have more of a strong, bulky appearance than the assault and scout tripods. Very appropriate for their task of fetch, haul, and fabricate.

Here is the more or less paint job. trying to decide if I need to add brass to the leg joints. Probably not. I assume the Martians are not particularly prone to aesthetics.

Here they are posing with an assault tripod. It might be a little hard to tell from the angle of the photo but they are about half the height of the assault tripod.

And here it compares to a MKII steam tank and doughboys.

Just for future reference: Plastic beads are easy to split in half. I've used a few over the years as small domes.
