I believe you are correct, madmorgan. It was called a "spigot mortar." The giveaway is that baseplate to absorb the recoil. It is larger than needed for a rocket. Those guys all look kind of apprehensive about this whole exercise. Another variation on the theme: Hmm...You're right. It looks like a rocket at first from the photo but it's a mortar.

Good job all - I was slow on getting back, although I have some figures (1/72 I think) with these and at least one metal vendor (Peter Pig I think) carries some

I wasn't able to confirm the Peter Pig figures as they're working on their site and alot of the various lines aren't able to be pulled down atm. I was also wanting to check the Pig line for 'loose' camels for mounting different (e.i. USA) figures on. Hopefully he'll have things sorted soon and we can all enjoy his wide range of stuff. His resin pieces are also really nice. I have in my hands a destroyed covered wagon, which I plan to use as an ambush piece (boom!) and its beautifully sculpted, right down the the severed hand jutting out from under the rear of the wagon. Peter Pig is available from the original producer in England and from Brookhurst Hobbies, out of CA in the USA. Prices are very reasonable and purchases from Brookhurst gives you a 10% off coupon for your next order. They carry a large line of other vendor products as well, with the same coupon deal. Good guy, I've gotten several orders from him, including a 15mm Patrol Boat and plan on getting an Armored Train from him soon.

From the target's point of view, the difference between rocket, spigot mortar and mortar is insignificant.
I am hoping that we can get troops armed with "stovepipes" soon, as well as "partizans" (i.e. Apaches, Villistas, and Rangers, possibly european armed civilians) getting multiple rocket launchers.

Oh, Yes. lf you at the wrong place when it arrives, any of them will do it for you.
And Scott laid the groundwork for the Stovepipes in the second book. The passing reference to Drs Munroe and Goddard is the headlight of an on-coming train. With those two collaborating, good things (for prey creatures = bad things for Martians) will happen.
