Hmmm, on Amazon the "Recommended Age" for the players is "120 years and up". I'm too young to play the game

The Models are what got me interested in All Quiet. I sell my PaperTerrain models at HMGS conventions and when Ernie Baker announced the kickstarter, he was also selling stuff at those conventions and had the prototypes on display and I fell in love at first site. But my favorites? Well, the tripods, of course. What’s not to like? And the models themselves are so open to modifications like putting in lights.
Or turning into wrecks. Still, I think I like the humans’ stuff the best. I always like masses of infantry.
Or masses of tanks!
And who couldn’t like a huge, clanking land ironclad?
Still, my favorite modeling project was the Heavy Field Battery.

I've been tinkering around with building a model of one, but haven't had the time.

Well, after dithering for a long time I've finally decided to rebase my AQ infantry. While I liked the looks of the long 4" wide bases, they do have some real disadvantages. In particular they forced me to make my PaperTerrain houses unrealistically large in order to make them large enough for the bases to fit inside.
So I'm going to use the standard Flames of War-sized 'medium bases' that are 2" wide by 1 1/4" deep. I bought a pile of them from Litko and now comes the tedious process of rebasing. I'm going to put four figures on each base rather than five, so that will give me some extra figures that I can use for my next battalion
Just as a note for you folks who have my PaperTerrain buildings, I plan to shrink down the houses, farm, and church and probably the school, too to about 75% of their current size. The large town buildings will remain the same size. So if you like the larger houses and want any more better order them soon because they won't be available in the future.

In my novels I noted that a Goliath ("Little David") really isn't a tank. It's not meant to mix it up with tripods and drones at close range. It was meant to mobilize a very large caliber artillery piece that could be used to pick off tripods at long range. I have one of these models, too, and I need to get it painted up. Maybe I'll add the lateral stabilization jacks to prevent it from flipping over if you fire the gun pointing to the side

I too, will not put unpainted minis on a table to play. Good for you!

Well, it shouldn't be a problem, although some of the characters in Gathering Storm, Like major Bridges and Commander Harding, were introduced in the first three books and there are many background events in them too. But you should still be able to enjoy them.

Glad you got a chance to "See the Elephant" at last! Playing the humans is a lot trickier than playing the Martians I've found. You really do need to have a combined arms force. The infantry isn't very powerful, but they are dangerous enough that the Martians cannot ignore them. The human artillery can be very useful, especially as it out-ranges the Martian weapons. There's no doubt that the tanks are your best anti-Martian weapons, but you need to use them in conjunction with all your other forces. The key to victory is to get all your forces into action at once because the Martians' great weakness is their limited number of weapons. If you can give them so many targets they can't handle them all it gives you the opportunity to hammer them with everything you've got and eventually you'll start to bring them down.

Big Wally, you realize you need to read the three stories in the Omnibus (America in Flames) first, don't you? Invasion, Breakthrough , and Counterattack are the first the books in the series.

Bigwally, as you probably know by now they are novels, rather than comics or illustrated novels (although they do have lots of maps). They were originally intended to be a direct tie-in with the game and me and my publisher had a gentleman's agreement with the owner of the game. Unfortunately the game owner went bankrupt before the first novel appeared. So we dissolved the agreement and I went back and filed off all the serial numbers (I removed any DIRECT references to the game) and we went ahead and published the novel as an independent story. This was quite successful and I've gone ahead with the series. More novels are in the offing!

The first three are out of print in paperback (hence the ridiculous $900 price). As David notes, they are available in an omnibus volume in paperback. They are also available as E-books.
