Don't feel bad. Mixed scales are a practical necessity. I really came to recognize it when Steve Jackson dealt with the issue for OGRE miniatures. The tanks are vastly larger scale than the maps. His "solution" was to think of the gameboard as a virtual reality map and the larger playing pieces are just icons on the maps.
I have been intrigued by the concept of an ultra miniature game set. Do you have photos of your outfit?

Atlas, my phone is very old and the camera doesn't work. See my thread 2mm AQMF and 2mm OOB threads for details of the setup. The tripods ("Olympians") are not our AQ ones, there's basically a straight assault type, a gas only type, a harvester/melee type and a (!) flying type tripod, and a cylinder type (crashed ship). The humans have a fair number of armored vehicles along with button like infantry in groups of 14 (close enough for a squad). Overall, the idea is to show folks a small taste of AQ without all the stuff and then perhaps demo a full size, 'correct' game later after interest is shown.

I've used the Shapeways site to get materials for a 1/288 zeppelin - using plastic Eastern halves for the end on a long 1" swimming tube for the body and attacking the 'bits' by Shapeways (gondolas, engines, etc.). But, the size is still awkward on the table and I've since gone to smaller scale for the largest airships. I've not seen the ones mentioned by dave - ty they were great, I particularly liked the P-22 series, perfect size (1:2400) and layout for AQ. The Rs were also nice. TY again.

If this is in the wrong place, please move it.
X-Y-Z Point values seem good for a unit of 4. I should not like the movement and defense of the aircraft being the same. The defense is too high. For purely emotional reasons, I really like this. Planes have no armor to speak of, but are hard to hit. I am dubious about the idea that aircraft assault the Martians and have any chance of survival. As I see it, the aircraft must stay away from the heat rays. Far, far away. Now, if the "assault" is an abstraction then it fits well. I don't think it will be possible to deal with an airplane model several feet above the table top. The model will be easy to tip over and a menace in general. Having the plane about six inches above the table and having the attack REPRESENTED by an assault seems like a good plan. If my interpretation is correct, X-Y-Z seems like a lot of fun.

One legacy of the game Command Decision was the clear definition that while the figures were 1:300 scale, the "ground" was one inch to fifty yards. The problem I have with mixed scales is how it effects terrain. Technically, the terrain, especially the buildings, should be in the same scale as the ground, but this looks bad. I'm inclined to make my buildings in the same scale as the figures, in this case, 1:100. Doughboys and drones fighting in a model house is fun. I'd rather see the airplanes in 1:100 because the smaller models are hard to assemble when using paper. Plastic 1:144 scale airplanes might be a better fit in terms of scale. Dirigibles and ships being an even smaller scale to represent distance is a good idea.
If I have not communicated this, I apologize.

All fair statements and very understandable. The airplane model represents a flight of from 1 to 4 aircraft - I used a value of three for this to simplify and keep it similar to the 3 elements of most tanks. The point values are derived from the aircrafts speed. That is really all it has going in 'defense' of tripod fire. Please note that the Martians fire first in the "anti-aircraft" phase. Each plane rolls to see if it 'dodges' and a fail means its kia. Note that this is per firing Martian ray - a Dominator could fire both heat rays, almost insuring destruction of the entire flight. A drone squad would be vulnerable to airplane attacks, as their limited range heat ray (10") falls way short of the airplanes 20" range MG(s). The 'assault' is indeed a representation of the plane(s) firing at maximum range of their weapons and then moving away at maximum speed. Bombs and rockets are also launched in this 'assault'. Perhaps I should of called it an 'attack' to keep confusion with the assault function of the game. In fact, I will change that - it better describes the action as opposed to the 'hands on' nature of the games 'assault. Finally, I intend the airplanes to be at least as 1:144 scale, simply because there are so many good figures available in that scale (Wings, Shapeway, etc). As an aside, I suppose you could use 1/72 plastic planes, but those require assembly and are usually more expensive. Note that GHQ makes a really nice little 1:285 IL-153 that would work great for a general token for airplane attacks. The advantage of the Wings 1:144 planes are that they are already assembled and painted - admitted they cost more, but you only need one to represent you flight. I had a good friend (Nam buddy) present me with a batch of Wings planes, repainted in USA markings! Wonderful present, particularly the Bristol F2b; one of my favorite planes from the period IRL and AQ. So for a few bucks, you can add air power to your battlefields and make Colonel Patton and his BEF/Canadian counterpart very happy. PS: there is a distinct possibility for drones like Shock & Sniper to anti-aircraft fire on a flight of strafing planes. It this case, both units would have 3 shots each to destroy the flight, making taking these on a very dangerous mission. Finally, all flight are sent out with instruction to attack a preferred target priority - e.i. assault, scout with targeter, grenadier in that order - and thus don't need to be lead via ground communication to a target.

BTW, thank you for making me think again about all this - I was able to logically add the Shock and Sniper drones to the AA fire possibilities due to this discussion. Glad you like the rules, I can see this becoming an element of IGs second rule book if they ever get to that (the one with the 'more Earth forces' from the AD schedule). Cheers! PS: hope you feel some better, the tone of your entries indicate a certain 'foggy' medicated time for you

TY. The opportunity to review the rule suggestions was pleasant.
Feeling good and feeling better are different things.

Possibly we can have something along the lines of Mantic's "Rules committee" for their games to apply to AQMF. Basically people that play a lot and work on the rules largely create the actual rules for the game in subsequent editions, since they know the balance issues, etc.

I think that is more less what madmorgan is doing as he compiles the Living Rules.
There is no telling what approach Ironclad Games will take with their release.
