The original All Quiet resin bunkers are nice but did not seem to have a defined purpose. Were they meant to be gas proof shelters? I wanted to see the bunkers double as gun positions or as a base for towers.
I took a top from a bunker (same one I modified in by Bixby Barricades thread) and using modeling putty and steam tank vents and hatches made a modified bunker top that would work as a fortified gun position. I made the top flat to accommodate a large Flames of War base. (Editorial comment - I wish I was a better sculptor) . I used this as the form to create a resin mold and you can see a resin copy next to the blue putty original.
I think I will paint the toppers with a concrete finish and the vents/ hatch with the industrial red primer look.
I know I post a bunch on this forum as far as DIY projects. The great thing about AQMF is the room for expansion with a reasonable imagination and the alternate history provided.

That looks fabulous - don't stop, you give us all great ideas & I for one can use any instructions on how to make better terrain/fortifications etc.

Very nice. I have had similar thoughts that the bunkers should be useful as bases for something. But have not had the time to follow up on it. And you versions are better than my unrealized ideas anyhow.

The British actually have a game purpose with their radio comms in the bunker with the still non-model existent Command Squad - a long antenna on top is an easy add, especially if you use temporary bluetac putty, painted of coarse, that you can lift on and off the bunker. I always prefer to make any changes to the AD cast trenches/bunkers temporary and removable without damaging the piece as we don't know when (or if?) those items will ever be reproduced.

I don't use the standard bunker tops because for some strange reason they were made too small to match the bunker. I've modified 2 bunkers and am modifying 3 more with 'concrete' slab tops (3mm thick x 82mm wide x 78mm deep with rounded corners).
Two will have short command towers with HMGs, 1 will be the Field Commander's tower, being taller and having a gun director on top, and 2 will have Mk IV monitor turrets. (some photos are in the Trenches terrain thread.)

Have to finish painting the 5 inch gun turrets but I have four toppers completed.
At a local hobby store I saw a model "D-Day Gun Emplacement" by Airfix and I though it would make a decent fortified position for the land ironclad 12 inch super heavy gun.

Yeap, I got that one through Amazon at a really good price and actually use it with my 1/72 battles as is - see the various OOBs in Russia as its part of the 'Tzars Line' and other fortifications. I also use it with the 1/72 Canadians for their Yeti Battalion base camp, located in central Canada. They still have both it and its companion set at Michigan Toy Soldier - see suppliers list for site. Airfix has a lot of 1/72 figures are very reasonable costs for both WW1 and Colonial actions that can be used in battles in Canada or Russia. Added to the excellent 1/72 HaT Inc and Zvezda (sp) lines you can do a lot of human forces (don't overlook the French Foreign Legion & Arabs as well)

I still had some mold and resin material left so I manufactured resin turret bases. I decided to give the base plate a concrete look instead of the industrial primer. I added two small hatches to give a bit of definition. Shown with the painted 5 inch gun turrets but will also accommodate the 7 inch turret from the land monitor.

I was able to cast 7 inch gun turrets of the land ironclad for a future human redoubt scenario.

Looks great and 7" without the "stop to fire" are a good weapon. Looking forward to your next AAR with the above table setup.
