I think you hit a homerun on your version I nevered cared for the size of the Mkvi They looked way too oversized These fit the scale much better What did u use for the round turret as a basis to mold it It really looks great Maybe expound on the process Looks like you used the cupola from the AFV for the top of the one turret Thanks for sharing

What model/name are you using for your tank?? Its a definate improvement on the MkIII. Three firing all around. But, I'd imagine its a bit slow with all that weight - probably a 4" not 6"??

Very nice work. Your resin casts look wonderful. I've never found much luck in my attempts.

Also, would suggest its adapted by the British and uses deathfromabove Tripod Busting Shells in those 3" guns.

I started out making moulds when I scratched built my own trenches and gun emplacements, I found this to be tedious cutting coffee stirring sticks in half so they matched the scale of AQMF figures. So instead looked at making silicone moulds. When I say the mould making was straightforward, I meant to say that because the original castings of the tank had a flat base unlike the 'kit' made Mk I-III, so it could be cast as one piece. Also because the tank is a good size and chunky with not too may pointing bits apart from the front MG barrel. For the mould I used liquid silicone rubber, made a box using styrofoam board and a glue gun to ensure nothing leaks out. Place the tank with base flat and the bottom and then pour enough mixed silicone to cover. I would recommend lifting the tank out to rid of any trapped bubbles and push back into the mould. Once dry gently lift the mould out, the silicone is very playable and the tank comes out easy. The tricky bit is making castings, as the original is fairly detailed, there are many places for tiny bubbles to get trapped. I poured the silicone in slowly bit for bit and swirled around, then used a piece of wire to push and scrape the resin into the detailed parts and always tap as you go along to get any trapped air bubbles to the surface. The turret was made from surplus MKI tank barrels and a lead hatch from I think from a British tank. I found 2 plastic cylinders, one fits inside the other to give that extra lip at the bottom. Cut to size and pressed some milliput putty inside, glued the hatch and cut a barrel to fit. Again I made a mould of it because I did not have enough of the plastic cylinders, but found casting was tricky, the barrel kept breaking off inside the mould every time I tried to remove it, instead I pushed in surplus barrels into the mould and then made a cast. The turrets are my favourite as they can be used for a variety of conversions, emplacements etc. As for rules, in the last game I used the MkIII tank rules as a base but yes with a 4" speed and as 3 elements as a unit instead of independent. No name for them as yet

Where did you buy the liquid silicone? I can't find a local source for it and have to use 2-part silicone putty that isn't suitable for large molds.
Same question re the resin. All I can buy locally is marine polyester resin or gelcoat - the same stuff I use to make 1/144 scale fiberglass warship hulls and turrets, and also used to make real boats.

I get mine online from a plastics company. I would assume there is somewhere you order some online. Also check Amazon and EBay as the companies often list on there

I'll have a look. Can you offer some brand names? The resin I use is much harder than that used for model casting and is much more difficult to cut, or to shape with files or sandpaper.

The resin is just standard for everyday use, boats etc. For fancy I added a grey coloured pigment. It sands really well but shatters if you try cutting it.

If you are in US the Alumilite mold kits are at Hobby Lobby They work great but but pricey Use there 40% off coupon found on line Buy the quikset resin after you cast mold It is 2 parts you stir for about 15 seconds and then slowly pour in It is very hard resin Cast the Infantry carrierhe shows without the MG in front Getting barrels to cast is impossible for this method I cast the aqmf tanks and trucks and even made destroyed tripes

Totally late reply to an ancient thread, but those turrets would be perfect for a project I'm working on. Any chance you might be interested in making/selling some at all? Love how the tanks came out by the way.
