I backed the rulebook only. I have lots of painted and unpainted figs so do not need more. And I am not that interested in the Germans for the game.

New pledge has listed. It's a great starter set for those new to the game. I am hoping they can sort out UK manufacturing as I could go for this pledge with add ons maybe. First Encounter! We have been working immensely hard to make this a game that you can love. But equally as importantly, making sure that you have a way to be introduced to the game. The community is immensely important to us and we are watching and listening to you all. We have seen the feedback and want to follow up with action. Thank you deeply to everyone who has invested us and in this game. We love what we have made and we want to give you all the opportunity to enjoy this fantastic game. For all who started years ago, and those coming into it for the first time. www.kickstarter.com/.../abb.../return-of-the-tripods

I was thinking the same about November 2024 shipping date. I also was not sure about whom gets their stuff first. In one part it says Kickstarters will get product first, in another part it says they can ship to non-kickstarters at any time. I have seen that done in other kickstarters. I do hope this is an successful and wish them well! Here is the sequence of how it would go down, as I understand it (and this plan is subject to improvements) 1. Kickstarter funds (hopefully) - When this happens, we have at least two and possibly up to five supporters who have paid to have custom stuff added to the game. David, myself, and the other developers will be working with them to fine tune a concept, rules, art, and model(s) to go with that. Those things have to be completed for the rulebook to be completed. - Simultaneously, I am going to be processing the 3D files for the models into versions that are a lot more optimized (it's a mostly automated tool, but I have to babysit it), so that they're actually reasonable sizes to download instead of hundreds of megabytes each. That will take a couple of months. - Initial rulebook proofing, layout work, and print prep is going to be going on. - Also, David is going to size up how many orders for physical models came from where (US, UK/EUR, AUS) and lining up print production in those locales so people don't get eaten alive by shipping. 2. Actual content for the rulebook is locked (only layout and proofing / type editing / copyfitting remains). 3. 3D models for distribution are complete and locked. We have internal versions we can use to get physical prints started, so model printing can start before this. - At this point, there are several things in motion. Physical production of the models is underway in multiple locales, the 3D digital model files are ready for release to backers, and the rulebook is complete and ready for print. - Technically, the PDF rules and 3D models are already ready to go right here, and all we have to do is push the green button. I am not sure if David is going to wait on releasing that stuff until physical goods are ready to deliver as well - my impression is no, and that when the digital goods are ready those get unleased, but that's not gospel. I do know that when the digital goods are ready to go for Kickstarter backers, they are also ready to go on sale for online retail, so that may be when retail access launches as well. 4. The rulebook is sent off for its *physical* print run, which will take several months to produce and then ship back to us (on a slowwww boat from China) from the printer. I believe David is setting it up so that the shipment gets split up to distribution nodes in the US, UK/EUR, and AUS (he's in AUS), again, to save backers on shipping. - Physical rulebooks and models get delivered. (This may be the line of departure for the digital stuff as well, but my impression is otherwise, see above) Again, none of that is The Word Of The Man Himself and all of it is being revised as we go for the best end results, but that's my understanding at this time.

Thanks for the post. Not clear on the physical models part (Don't use a printer) but its seems you are saying they won't ship until the rulebook does in November, is that correct?

Thanks for the post. Not clear on the physical models part (Don't use a printer) but its seems you are saying they won't ship until the rulebook does in November, is that correct? Most likely the physical model production will have some (or more than just some) batches complete and ready to ship before the print run of rulebooks gets back to us from the printers. My impression is that David is planning to ship all physical goods a backer ordered to them in one go, but that's only my impression and it's not an official statement or promise. It very well could be that when printed models are done, they get shipped, and odds are decent that the models would beat the rulebooks to the finish line in that scenario. I also want to emphasize that the November 2024 date is a backstop. I'm not going to call it worst case scenario, but it's the far end of the normal timeframe for getting a custom print order of 1,000 hardback 200+ pg books shipped back from overseas and then distributed to three continents. That's where that date comes from.

Thank you for clarifying most of it! Now it is back to the pledge page to see what I can afford.

Still waiting for estimated shipping costs. I had to cancel my pledge due to uncertainty on shipping and taxes. Currently with it all shipping from the USA I will have to pay an extra 25% tax and handling cost on top of shipping which makes it too expensive

They have put up some milestone rewards for those of you backing the kickstarter. There are more on the kickstarter. Unfortunately without any estimated shipping costs I can't risk backing it.

Currently with it all shipping from the USA I will have to pay an extra 25% tax and handling cost on top of shipping which makes it too expensive I totally understand the concern. David has been adamant that he is working on a way to keep UK/EUR backers from having to pay international costs. The gist of it is that since the bulk of the physical goods (the models) are 3D printable, he is aiming to have a print shop set up in the UK so that the physical minis aren't subject to customs, since they would then quite literally be made locally.

That's an official statement from our team. We are making sure taxes and fees don't keep you from being able to enjoy the game.

Ok that is good news for people but it still means high shipping costs without a UK or Eu distributor. I have been told its an estimated cost of $75 for the largest pledge. I am heavily invested in the original game not just with miniatures but with the existing lore. It seems the new game does not follow on from the old game but is just a follow on from the HG Wells Book. So if shipping is a third of $75 for the book it makes it very expensive for just some new rules with the fluff not being relevant to the older version. Also I don't need any germans and have lots of lobotons so if I wanted to just add on some of the new tripods there is not a pledge to do that. (The $1 pledge does not allow add ons) Also without knowing how much the shipping could be it can make a few tripods very expensive. November 2024 also seems along way off to get a product that is supposedly finished apart from the book. I understand the book layout and printing takes time but I understand this is separate from the models so why would they take that long to produce and ship? A lot of people have asked for a PDF rulebook only pledge but they not been answered. I also find the fact that this kickstarter has been promised for years now it seemed very rushed and disorganised. How come the EU/UK shipping and taxes costs were not thought about until after the kickstarted was started? It also seems to be the same for finding manufacturers of the products overseas. As this campaign seems primarily focused on STLs and people printing the models surely more effort to find overseas printers should have been done before launching the kickstarter. Now although I do have concerns I wish the project every success and I hope in the future we will be able to buy models from UK and EU distributors.

I ended up backing the Faction Leader package with some add-ons. I wanted as many of the new Tripods as possible.
I really am not interested in the German line at this point so maybe selling those at a later date. It was cheaper to get that package then get a lower one and do a lot of add-ons.

I backed it for $1 as there were no pledges that I wanted as I don’t need Germans or lobotons. I was going to select a couple of tripods as add ons but that option wasn’t available
