Raid on Ismailia
The town of Ismailia, Egypt is a new town, just over fifty years old in a land of the ancient. Ismailia is located on the north shore of Lake Tismah on the west bank of the Suez Canal. During the Martian Invasion Ismailia became a key logistics hub situated between Port Said and to the north, Cairo to the southwest, and Suez City to the south. When it became apparent Egypt would fall Ismailia became a key hub for evacuation. It's location in theory made it safer than the Nile or routes north out of Cairo that were under pressure from Martian advances. The Royal Engineers establish a pontoon bridge across the canal with the intent to allow some forces to make it to Palestine to establish a new line of defense. Some rudimentary defenses were constructed around the town but forces were thin due to the demands of defending Cairo.
The Martians assault on Cairo including supporting attacks to the north and south of the city. The attacks to the north were handily repelled due to priority of forces protecting the routes to Alexandria and the Nile to the sea. However south of Cairo Martian force were able to cross the Nile and one made it all the way to Suez City. This Martian incursion was defeated but at the cost of 80% casualties and the smoking ruins of the port facilities. Another Martian probe reached the shore of the Great Bitter Lake and then began to move north following the rail line between Suez and Ismailia. The reinforced British infantry company defending Ismailia is aware of the Martian advance. The orders are to hold at all costs. The first of the Cairo evacuation convoys are expected to pass through any moment.
The photo below is oriented looking north with Martians approaching from the south. Red stars indicate potential targets.

The humans must not be allowed to escape and regroup. These particular humans have potent weapons and have inflicted unanticipated losses. Our scientist have noted among the battlefield debris that these humans have made crude attempts to copy our technology. The newly discovered waterway will form a perfect trap for our prey. Advance regardless of losses. Retreat only when one tripod is left in order to report the results of battle.
