The "Mother" tank was iconic, with it's rhomboid shape and sponson mounted guns.
The rhomboid shape was designed to cross trenches. It was excellent for this purpose.
The sponson mounted guns were designed to clear the trenches. While crossing the trench, shoot down the trench from both sides. The Machine gun was devastating as the cannon, although I wonder what might have happened had they developed beehive shot in WWI.
While the iconic image of the sponson gun looks so steampunk, I really wonder about their utility.
I really like the idea of a 1-gun sponson with a 180 or maybe even a 200 degree arc instead of two gun sponsons with 90 degree arcs. Of course the issue is complicated, because in game terms, the arcc are not precisely defined.
I must again remark that wile I consider the Mark IV to be a ferocious beast, I really don't like the two dinky turrets in the front between the tracks. I do like the idea of having 4 4-inch guns and a 5 or 7 inch gun in my front arc.
SO: I'll suggest a variant of the MK IV: The two side sponsons will each be replaced with a single gun mount with a 180 degree arc. The side mounts will be ATgs. The turrets between the front tracks will be machine guns. Since you cant fire MGs and guns in the same phase, these will have their niche responsibility. The main turret will have a 5-inch gun. This weapons mix will allow it to augment the standard Mk IV and the Monitor.

I have a friend who keeps suggesting something between the Mark 3 and the Mark IV, with 4 guns on it

wow David what a great site! I'm open to suggestions as to how to incorporate this into AQMF. I suggest that this type of round only be available from later 1916 or first of 1917. I suggest it also be noted as CS (case shot). Finally, the most important items are Range, Power, Special Effects. We're looking at a 6 pdr 'shotgun' here folks. I look forward to making this available to at least British forces in 1917 scenarios. Do have a look at the number of mounted 6 pdrs in the BR army - impressive.

A case shot for the Hotchkiss revolver canon was available and tested by the U.S. Board of Ordenance in 1877. I think the case shot would be very effective against drones and ragers. Although I don't use ragers as I don't believe the Martians play with their food.

A wonderful series of examples of interservice "rivalries." I knew about case shot, apparently they just never bothered to use it.
As far as AQMF is concerned, AP is what the prey creatures need.
