Turn 5 - Humans win initiative. The civilians begin to reach the river boat. In the center all available guns fire on the Martian gatherer machine. It is now in range of the USS Weston's 7 inch gun and takes a hit but no damage. The harvester turn on its tormenters and using its powerful claw destroys a tank but the other two withstand the tentacles. The marine infantry are not so lucky and destroyed by the reaper machine and processed into the harvester. The Martians, not deterred by the USS Weston, surge forward to bring their heat rays into play and to block further escape. The remaining marine infantry is destroyed as well as a field gun. Turn 6 - Martian player wins initiative. The die roll for the arrival of the dominator machine fails . The Martian players presses the advantage and uses last two order tokens to double move the gatherer and a harvester. The gatherer wades into the lead of the refugee column. The harvester attempts to dig out the Marine machine gun team but fails. The mortars and field guns come under heat ray fire. The last two Mark II tanks are destroyed. Human Turn 6. The lone Mark III tank fires on a trailing reaper machine and damages it with a mobility critical hit. Due to the proximity of three Martian machines the river boat fails its moral check. A reroll with an order token results in good morale and the ship remains at dock side. The refugee column is dispersed with most heading away from the ships. The USS Weston manages to damage the gatherer machine with a seven inch hit and a subsequent 5 inch gun inflicts weapons control critical hit. The last refugee group arrives into the middle of the fight. The leading police militia patrol destroys the lone drone blocking the path. Infantry assaults along with .50 caliber sniper fire brings down the already damaged reaper machine.

Turn 7 - Human player wins initiative. The river boat fails the initial morale check but the reroll with use of an order token is successful allowing the last of the hospital staff and wounded to make it on board. Infantry now supported by the police militia further hound the harvester and inflict further damage to include a weapons hit for a total of three damage points. The fire power of the USS Weston begins to make an impact as a controller machine is destroyed buy multiple hits and the gatherer tripod sustains more damage. The trailing reaper machine, already damaged and crippled, is destroyed by the Mark III tank. During the second movement phase the order is given for the river boat to cast off due to being in direct fire range and line of site of Martian heat rays. 15 civilian/ medical elements and two military elements make good their escape. Two large groups of refugees remain as well as Marine survivors and must make a dash for the USS Weston Martian Turn 7: The dominator tripod arrives from the south. The undamaged harvesters move in on the USS Weston firing heat rays but causing no damage. The damaged harvester and gatherer begin to retreat with their ghoulish cargo, The Mark III tank and remaining field gun are destroyed.

Impressive scenario! Beautiful table. The place looks just like you would expect from the book descriptions of an intense raid. Excellent job all the way around.

The stretchers add a nice touch. What mini line are they from?

The stretchers add a nice touch. What mini line are they from? One of those German model railroad companies. A more puny HO scale.

Awesome game ! TY, a real eye feast. Btw, for those of you out there looking to build medic units, Old Glory has a nice selection of ACW Union & Confed. medical units with doctors, stretcher bearers and both cart and wagon medical setups. Of coarse if they'd get off their duffs and finish the WW1 line of figures, we'd get the official four powers med teams as well as a lot of other stuff. Thank you again for a great layout and game. I support the civie points becoming part of the official scenario rules - I'll add to the Living Rule Book soon.

Turn 8 - Humans win initiative with the benefit of destroying two tripods last turn. Marines and civilians have scrambled to board the USS Weston. However the last group of refugees are now cut off. The Weston is unable to damage the approaching machines. Martians move on the Weston. One Harvester is in range to use its claw and destroys the starboard 20mm cannon. The two Marine snipers fall to heat ray sweep. Turn 9. Humans win initiative. The Weston and what is left on the ground attempt to clear a path. Though there is damage the machines still stand. The refugees seeing the path blocked and the Weston under attack panic and jump into the river . Unable to repel the Martians and with the approach of the Dominator bearing dual heavy heat rays the USS Weston pulls away from the dock. Human player victory points: 23 civilian, medical elements (46 points) + 6 military (6 points) = 52 points Martian victory points: 26 elements captured (26 points) + 16 elements left on board (8 points) = 34 points A human morale victory in the greater tragedy during the fall of Kansas City.
