I have been working on a costume for AQMF, realizing that WWI combat uniforms did not have decorations, name tags or pretty much anything beyond rank insignia.
I wanted to make a prop gun and came up with a thought, which I am beginning to execute.
A sawed off Winchester lever action shotgun. The lever action can be worked with one hand making it good for a rough rider, and with blank ammunition it could launch a grapple.
Is this believable?

Nothing fundamentally wrong with the concept as it stands.
However, John Browning introduced a 5-shot recoil operated shotgun in 1905 that would permit true one hand operation. The date puts is squarely in the AQMF timeframe

The Model 1897 Winchester shotgun was used by US troops from the Spanish American War through World War I. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_1897Not really sure how much use it would be against a tripod or drone. As for your costume, You can certainly improvise and start adding unit insignia and such. I've mentioned this in my novels.

scottwashburn I will have to search your books for costume hints.
A sawed off shotgun is pretty handy for use on a bike. 12 gauge slugs with a tool steel core might penetrate a tripod. there is also the HESH principal. A putty-like explosive flattens out on the armor and detonates, causing armor damage.

Working a slide takes two hands. A lever action can be worked in one hand and without having to take that hand off the weapon, hence easier for use while on a bike
Like the lever action rifle the Duke used in True Grit.

Exactly - would definitely make the grade for a motorcycle and/or Rough Rider weapons. And give at least a +1 POW to boot.

Sarah Conners managed it with one hand in Terminator 2 The 1897 Winchester has the interesting feature that if you hold the trigger down and work the pump, it will fire automatically each time a new shell is loaded. And the military version can mount a bayonet

Yes, indeed!
If you want to clear out a trench section, it is hard to conceive a better tool. I think it was nicknamed Trench Sweeper.
The Germans, those friendly folks who introduced gas warfare, tried to get the shotguns outlawed as too barbarous. They also introduced the flamethrower, too.

Sarah Conners was on foot. While a pump action is usually preferred, in fact it is my choice for my shotgun, a lever action is better while on a horse or bike.
Shot shells or buck and ball are great anti-personnel weapons, but we are fighting Martians. I want to be able to shoot my grapple.
