The base size issue, as I see it now, is still open. I'd suggest using white glue to hold infantry on to the existing bases so you can change your mind later.

New here with the 1st edition boxed set. I have NOT put any infantry on bases yet. From past experience with other games, I had to got through base size changes between editions. Back and forth. It was a pain! Doable, but I think I cussed folks, ie game designers, for a week or three. But I don't own the game, I'll end up going with the flow to make it work and have fun. I will hold off basing infantry for now. I have had to watch using certain things to work on figures in the past. Especially plastic or resin ones. I've had my fair share of "heat ray" melted ones!!! As a former WH40K player I know exactly what you mean. One thing I learned from that was to use magnets whenever and wherever you could (granted, GW started to make nearly impossible to do and that among other things drove me out of the game). What I suggest is to drill small holes into the flat bottom of the infantry just deep enough for the mag with a little bit sticking out after the mag is super glued into place. Then drill a hole on the base you want to place it on slightly deeper than the second mag. Put the second mag on the first mag so their polarities match and then put a small amount of glue in the hole on the base, just enough to attach the bottom magnet but not the one glued to the mini. The base mag should be slightly recessed into the base. Repeat this for the rest of the minis and once its set, you can rearrange the figures as you want on the base, or even repeat the base magging process with a different style of base.

Embed the magnets in the bases. Glue a small steel washer on the bottom of the figure. Better but more work: cut the points out of thumbtacks. Flatten them a bit, and use these vice washers. Use a hold punch and punch out pieces of magnetic sheet or, if you can find it, thin steel sheet.

Infantry in this game are very weak and rightly so vs. untouched Martians. Switching from 5 men bases to 3 or 4 men bases would help. I don't like the idea of re-basing three platoons, but would like to make infantry stronger if only making 5 vs. 3 bases to destroy.

I don't know if this is still up for debate but as I am new here I kinda wanted to put my two cents in, I feel that it would not be out of line thematically to have the bases vary by faction, where the US might fight in a line like from a trench would generally be on the original bases more mobile factions like the BEF might fight in skirmish formations on square bases but be allowed to be a little further apart.
note these are just examples of how they could be different from army to army im not specifically saying to use these bases for these armies

Sounds like a good idea. I think the basing only really matters for tournaments, which is something I don't do so will be keeping them the same

White glue is probably the simplest and most easily re-worked if changes are wanted.

OK gang I am putting some paint to my infantry now. Has there been an answer to this question? I will be ready to base these infantrymen this week.

Who is they? And when did they say it? Right now I’m leaning toward putting four or five men on the standard issued piece of plastic. I broke one of my original men, so that is why I’m going to put 4 to 5 men on each piece and just spread them out kind of irregularly.

thank you Q.
I saw some traffic on here about play testing the new rules at a convention or something. Were any of you at that convention or know anyone who was? Did anyone see or have a copy of a new rulebook?

Did anyone see or have a copy of a new rulebook? Last thing on Facebook was they were still play testing. The worrying thing was someone who said they had been doing play testing said they hadn’t heard anything in a long while ☹️

The number of figs per stand is only about aesthetics. Every stand gets one die roll when attacking regardless. The only issue, really, is defense. Depending on placement, smaller bases risk being more susceptible to laser sweeps with the template potentially hitting all stands in a unit. The original bases make this far less likely.
