The small town is a target the Martians dread. While there are plenty of prey creatures, when they cluster together they fight even harder. They prey use physical traps, Edison wire, pitfalls, and anything else their cunning minds can devise. They also have heavy projectile throwers. While they are not as skillfully used as those of the fighting prey creatures, they are still dangerous. While each town is different, there are some things in common. As players, it is pretty easy to set up a town in some ways, hard in others. The easy part is to go to www.paperterrain.com/where you will find an assortment of models. The hard part is next; deciding which of the wonderful models to get. Now: what is in a typical small town? There is almost always a Mercantile/general store, a sheriff's office which may also include a mayor's office and other spaces for civic duties. There is almost always a church. The church may function as a place for civic meetings and in some cases it is also the school. Bigger towns will have a seperate school when they have enough pupils to have multiple teachers and teach multiple grades. There is usually a hotel which includes a restaurant. By the time of the second Martian invasion there would be a seperate saloon, and the days of the wild and wooly west are settling down. The saloon will not include a bordello, nor will there be much gambling. the structure of the town will be based on whether or not there is a railroad track. Typically a railroad track divides the town. Another common structure is to have a town square surrounded by commercial buildings with businesses. Doctors and lawyers typically had offices in their homes. Very small towns will cluster around a smaller commercial district: A Church, a Mercantile, a Hotel and a Sheriff's Office. Now: how do we dress a table with a realistic looing small town?

Good thoughts and a well deserved subject that's been overlooked! Kudos to the BuckWabbit! Livery stable, train station, telegraph station and poles. Horses were pretty much in use still, I believe. Some kind of harvest storage for the local farmers? Watermill, lumber mill with a usable river or dammed up water source? Respectfully, Gunny
