I got the Gatherer Tripod last year and due to the badly cast resin part it put me off building it. I contacted Iron Clad games and they sent me a replacement which was very good customer service. Unfortunately the replacement part was worse than the original, they have mentioned that they will redo the mould at some point. Anyway that put me off starting it until now. First up you can see the poor casts and poor fitting of the resin parts in this thread Gather Tripod Casting
But with some sanding and green stuff I can make it fit. Then onto some milliput to smooth things over Next I will look at attaching the arms.

Surely IC could have done a better sculpt - I won't be buying any Gatherer kits. I'll have to scratchbuild them.
I've been wondering what the hold-up is on the Holt tractors. The unarmed one looked great and I could use half a dozen.

I think IC would have been better off sculpting a completely new head for the Gatherer. Something based on the Harvester head and using the same body and legs should have been feasible.
I'm thinking of getting another Harvester and doing some mods to produce a Gatherer: 1) use the 'meat grinder' opening as a prey loading port that doesn't grind them up! Make a slightly domed 4 section hatch, with the points of the sections meeting in the middle of the hole. The hatch sections could be modelled opening as the human in the tentacle is brought closer. (If the hatch is partly open the grinder details should be dremelled off.) 2) remove the 2 capped cylinders projecting upward behind the hatch.
I'd keep the large 'drain' at the lower rear of the head for unloading prey to transfer to the Harvester or to a Scientist to convert to lobototons. 3) I wouldn't attempt to add details on the rear part of the sides depicting cage bars (a new sculpt could have done that) but would drill a few rows of ventilation holes for the prey holding compartment.

I was wondering if the gatherer is top heavy at the back and if you had to weight up the stand so it does not fall backward?

I was wondering if the gatherer is top heavy at the back and if you had to weight up the stand so it does not fall backward? It actually seems quite stable

I agree IC needs to have a talk with their resin casters. I just started working on my Overseer and it is a pretty ugly casting. I spent about 2 hours today cutting off huge chunks (about a 1/2 inch cube in one case) of what must be casting sprue and carving in the detail it had obscured. I now have it cleaned up enough the two pieces of the head can fit together but there are huge gaps for me to fill.
As for the gatherer I don’t really like the design so I’ve not ordered one yet. Maybe I’ll kit bash something like loyalist suggested.

I will absolutely NOT fork out the money for such a miserable casting.
I am perfectly willing to do reasonable grind/sand/fill to get a finished product. I have been doing that on models for decades. These are just beyond the pale.

The one bonus for the gatherer tripod are the plastic arms. I wish they could be sold separate.

Well done. I am thinking perhaps those catnip cages that cats play with. Saw them in a pet store. Perhaps they could be cages slung under a regular tripod with some civilans inside like the Cruise movie? Respectfully, Gunny

Respectfully, Gunny I was thinking of the kuerig coffee machine metal mesh single serving strainer.
