Each year there is a convention in Gainesville FL sponsored by UF, called Swampcon. UF mascot is the Gators and their sports venues are nicknamed "the swamp."
This year the gaming area was well off the main area and there were a few players. Mine was the only miniatures game. I was further hampered by the room having half-width conference tables. So there was a gully running down the center of the table (two half-tables pushed together). I did not take any pictures. The overall visual impression was not good, BUT:
I had Scott Washburn's paper model farm, which drew a lot of notice, especially the destroyed versions inside the good buildings. It was a hit.
S2G was represented by a Faraday tank on the game table and an A7 used for decoration. They both attracted a lot of attention and positive reviews.
The Martian Tripods were a big hit. I also had a Mark IV and a single MK III on the table. The set up was designed purely to show off the models. The human figures were well liked, especially the Model T.
Overall, the few people who did watch liked the game. I got an invitation to a con in Jacksonville and this was a good tune-up for Ancient City Con in St. Augustine in September.
I am left with the following conclusions:
The game needs more promotion. Let's get the game out in FLGS and play in public. The game has as much visual appeal as warhamster, and is much less expensive It Appeals to younger gamers for its visual appeal, and veteran gamers for its game mechanics
ICG had been a great company to do business with. We love our game
Let's get out there and play.
