I was wondering how many of you Martian Gamers have a reaper tripod as part of your force? I was looking into one for they are cheaper than a harvester tripod and I was on the fence on this one so to say. I look forward to your input and helpl

I have a couple. I did use them as a stand-in for harvesters back in the day. A Martian force should have them if the humans have walled fortifications. Also they have the potential to rip into a land ironclad if they can survive. I forgot - is their movement 4 inches or 6 inches?

As I understand it, the Reapers were intended to be complementary with the Harvester. Reapers would catch prey and Harvesters would reduce them to nutrient gruel. Together, they could surround a larger area and capture more calories.
Probably not the answer you wanted to hear since you asked and "either/or" question.
IIRC, Reapers have a speed of 6.

I think you have confused the Reapers with the Gatherer Tripod. The Reapers where an additional item not in the rulebook, they had a separate pdf released by AD. The Gatherer Tripods are the ones that catch the prey for the Harvesters. I have 4 Reapers. One of the released models and 4 converted Slavers.

I have a pair of reapers. I uses them as drone controlers on their own, as they are powerful fighters in their own right. A pair of reapers and a harvester is a good combination for rooting prey out of their holes. A pair of reapers and a scientist is a good combination to retrieve prey for experimentation or conversion to lobototons.
I do not consider Harvesters, Scientists or Gatherers to be combat units. They are mission specialists that you build a scenario around. A Reaper, Gatherer and Harvester as a sub-group pitted against light forces trying to rescue civilians can be quite enjoyable. Replace the Harvester with a scientist looking to collect specimens and the scenario is different but the effect is the same. Invulnerable Martians seek to harm the civilians, desperate troops must fight desperate, often one sided, battles.
Great fun it is to read of battles between dozens of Tripods and thousands of men. The tabletop is a smaller battlefield.
A Reaper is probably more useful in combat on the tabletop. A Harvester is awesome on the tabletop and on a shelf under a jar. I bought both. I'd recommend the same to anyone.

I find the Reaper to be one of the best of the 150 point class of tripods. A couple of Scouts with targeters and a Reaper make as powerful assault group when backed by squads of Scorpion and Shock drones.
