Lovely set-up and great scenario. The based cows could be used to "stampede" around the feet of a Tripod to disorient it or waste shots at "not humans". Thought about that. Decoys. Or Martians may get distracted by attempting to harvest fresh beef.

Once the Martians capture the cattle, they can make them into the dreaded Lobocows. Texas Longhorn variant is the biggest pain.

Turn 3. The Martians attempt to maneuver back .into the open but lose initiative. The lead tripod is swarmed by cavalry and cowboys. Buffalo Jones successfully entangles the lead tripod. Successive grenade and explosive attacks, sniper fire, and machine gun fire pummel the tripod and it suffers a catastrophic explosion. Buffalo Jones is killed and the cowboys and cavalry are nearly destroyed and are routed. Even the approaching infantry suffer casualties. The nearby building is demolished but the following tripod is not damage. The Martians decide to retreat back south taking final shots. Two rail cars and a water tank are destroyed but the pursuing cavalry patrol dodge the sweep of the heat ray Even before the raiders fully disappear into the haze the towns people flock to see the fallen tripod. Buffalo Jones' body and those of his fellow riders were gathered and laid in state under the new state capitol dome. His scorched saddle was sent to President Theodore Roosevelt as a symbol of resolve during this war of survival.
