Mike, are those thread spools the roadway gate poles are sticking in? No. But now that you mention that's what they look like. I bought them at Hobby Lobby in the wood craft section. I thought they would make good concrete bases.

That's the really nice thing about craft stores, IF you walk around in there with a "free-flowing" mind. Pick up stuff-look at it from several angles-think about what it might do. Or what might be hiding inside the thing. Or what it might be if you give it a coat of paint. Let your imagination run freely.
PS: You will find that a lot of time can be spent this way, but it can pay off.

Nice look and great modeling make for a very visually stimulating game. I miss being on the convention trail - so many beautifully done figures and terrain; sigh. Don't forget to check with the girlfriend/old lady (whatever) for bits and pieces like empty spools - much cheaper. And don't over look the numerous hard plastic packaging & star foam protection pieces in various shapes and sizes. The hard plastic can easily be painted into building & bunkers and the foam into walls and bunkers as well. Some even have proper height 'steps'
