Metal foil. It comes in goldtone, silvertone and coppertone. There is also a coil that is an amalgamation of all three.

Just being nosey and you can take the Fifth if you want, but: How long did it take to cover that thing? It must have been really laborious and slow with all those parts, pieces, and curves.
I know that the car modelers have some stuff called Bare Metal Foil that comes in a variety of colors.

I know that the car modelers have some stuff called Bare Metal Foil that comes in a variety of colors. I had three sessions over three days. "Paint" the area with special glue. This glue stays tacky for a long time. Let the glue get tacky, between 1/2 an hour and an hour. Applying the foil does not take long. Once the surface was cleaned and the glue was ready, I spent 3 sessions of about 10 minutes each.

That's one menacing looking tripod! It looks great in gold and I like how you did the tentacles, they look like they are writhing and in motion.

Thanks for the tips! I also found through trial and (more) error painting gold color is difficult to get a good look.
