From my archives for the newbies on the forum. The subject of many campfire stories intended to scare new recruits, and, in fact, judged by most senior command as a myth, the Red Martians do actually exist. How or why the Martians with their cold, purely logical, seeming to lack any sign of emotions, modified this Tripod in this way is unknown. But unlike the Yanks to the south, which has made another horror story out of this peculiarity with disconnected facts, we Canadians have a more reasonable explanation. philsmartianfront.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-red-martian.html

Hmmm, interesting ideas. I'm working on an alternative as I don't see why there couldn't be more than a few of these excellent assault weapons in any pods arsenal. I think it would be a major experiment by a Scientist, or better, a Royal Scientist. These Reds can't be made on the battlefield like normal Scientist pregame upgrades - it has to made at with Construction Engines help over a period of time. But, what ever the explanation, it is a real threat on the battlefield. Ship borne artillery from the coast is somewhat effective and high altitude bombing has worked once. But, the combination of elements this machine brings to the battlefield has thus far not be counted very effectively and only massive volume of fire from the likes of a fortress town has been really successful against it.
Just my two cents worth.

Red Martians? Marvin is just a normal assault tripod, plus 20 points for "K-9", his drone. His story is from a conversation with my wife. She asked me if I would paint a tripod like Marvin the Martian. My facial expression must of been weird because she thought she offended. I then responded with "How can I NOT paint one like Marvin the Martian." It was only later that Steve Turn pointed out the text on the Red Martian in the rule book.
